Love, Economist Style

Tonight, on a "very special Valentine's" Lost: Sayid gets it on with another blondie, and Sawyer wants to play house with Kate. It's love, "The Economist" style.

Well, this episode was a bit of a doozy for me, and not just because of the storyline. B's away, so I had the (not so) brilliant idea of us being on the phone while watching the episode so that it would feel like we were watching it together. Eh, not so much. Logistical issues lingered into the first 15 minutes or so of the episode, only compounding my confusion.

Thus, I'm not even sure where to begin with it all! I have far more questions than insight, so... uh... I guess I'll start with Sayid's working for BEN?!?!?! Followed by Ben is a "Journeyman"! Man, if Dan Vassar had half the stuff that Ben had in that secret room, his journeys would have been a whole lot easier - Livia told him to always have money.

Ok, now that I got that off my chest, I'll just get on with it then.

What I Got Right
  • Hurley is setting them (Sayid, Kate, Miles) up.

Yup, that's it. That's about all I called.

What I Got Wrong

  • Thinking Sayid works for Abbaddon
  • Not thinking there would be a complete ambush from the Locke Lackeys.
  • Just who Sayid was after - Elsa or her employer. (I still don't know.)

What I Wish Someone Would Just Tell Me Already

  • Why was that Italian guy afraid of Sayid?
  • Why did Sayid kill the Italian? (Especially after prett much vowing in Season 3 that he wouldn't kill again.)
  • Why is Elsa using a pager? What the hell year are we in?!
  • What's up with the 30+ minute lag between real world time and "Island Time"? Does it have anything to do with the general stereotype that island life if very laidback, and that islanders always manage to be 30 minutes late for everything?
  • What's going to happen when they realize that Desmond wasn't on the flight either? Apparently nothing, since good ol' Frank and Dan didn't seem to care.
  • Although... what was that look that Frank and Dan shared when Des asked if either of them know who Penelope Widmore is?
  • How the hell did Ben leave the island and hide the fact that he did from everyone else?
  • Why has Ben been lying about never having been off the island?
  • What's with the braceletS (on Naomi and Elsa), and who the hell is RG?
  • Is the "economist" Abbaddon?
  • Why the heck didn't Jack want to get on that helicopter? He was so gung-ho about getting off the island, and then he refuses to get on the copter? What?!
  • Since when is Ben a doctor?!

General Observations

  • Love when Jack says to Kate, "Does that mean I should wait 20 minutes and go anyway?
  • Love LOVE when Hurley comments about Sayid killing someone with the "breakdancing thing you do with your legs."
  • Sawyer is so right about Kate - what the heck does she have to go back for? Although, based on the preview for next week, she apparently becomes "one of the most recognizable faces in America."
  • Sayid has really awful luck with women.

Oh, that's about all my brain can squeeze out at the moment. All in all, three big WTF moments in this episode: Sayid finding Ben's secret room; Dan's rocket arriving to the island half an hour late; Sayid being Ben's bitch in the future.

I don't know if it's the fact that we really haven't seen a whole lot of Sayid in a while, but I find myself not as interested in him as in the other characters. And where the heck are Jin and Sun? Thank goodness they finally come back next week.

That's not to say I didn't enjoy tonight's episode - a few factors were working against me. It delivered some pretty awesome goods. And with that, I say goodnight.
