Has Naveen Andrews Hurt Sayid?

When I heard that last night's episode, "The Economist" was going ot be Sayid-centric, it wasn't like I was jumping for joy. In past seasons, I might have thought that a Sayid episode meant drama, intrigue, violence, and good acting - all things that would get me excited. But not about last night.

So what has happened in the last year or so to make me disinterested in Sayid? Is it that he was so underused last season that I simply lost interest in him altogether? Am I resentful that I have to watch an episode centered around him before I find out what will happen to Sun and Jin? Or does the fact that Naveen Andrews has been very vocal about how he feels about his underuse last season and that he hopes that this season will be different? (He probably already knows that by now, since they've completed 8 episodes.)

I'm all for people speaking their minds - I sure tend to. But its a bit disturbing when you hear an actor complain about this or that about a role or show that has many devout followers. I realize that things can't always be perfect when it comes to any kind of work - especially acting in television or movies. But does the public have to know about it so much? Does Naveen Andrews have to voice his discontent in every single interview he gives?

I guess what bugs me most is that I used to like him and Sayid. I thought Naveen was definitley one of the stronger actors on the show, and I thought Sayid's story was fascinating and heartbreaking. But now, eh. Every shot of Sayid last night, I was reminded of Naveen's dissatisfaction, or of his former heroin addiction. I know that's pretty wrong of me, but I couldn't help it.

I do hope (and think) I will get over it. Sayid's story is quite intriguing, especially now that we know he works for Ben!
